MLK Day of Service

Jesus says that his greatest prayer is that “they may be one”.  In our fractured world we are faced with division and strife.  Join us this year as we seek to be a united people who love God, love one another and serve the world.

Join us on MLK Monday, as we take action to care for those who are hurting, both in our community and around the world and as we choose to grow, learn and listen to how to be a more unified people.

We’ll partner with local mission organizations to complete service projects and get to hear from musicians and speakers.  You can see a sample schedule listed below as well as links to our partner organizations.

  • Guest Preacher Rev. Lugenure "Jean" Jones of  Bensalem AME Church will be preaching at both 9:00 am and 11:00 am worship services.

MEET THIS YEAR'S KEYNOTE SPEAKER

Judge Clyde W. Waite

Clyde W. Waite is the first African-American judge to serve on the Bucks County Court of Common Pleas. Before the bench he earned his undergraduate degree from Howard University and his law degree from Yale Law School. Beyond his judicial work, Judge Waite has been a committed advocate for racial justice and adult education, co-founding the Anna Middleton Waite Adult Learning Center to help adults and seniors in his hometown improve their computer and literacy skills.

MEET THIS YEAR'S FEATURED SPEAKER

Wendel A. White 
photographer, historian and professor
Wendel A. White was born in Newark, New Jersey and grew up in New York, Pennsylvania, and New Jersey. He was awarded a BFA in photography from the School of Visual Arts in New York and an MFA in photography from the University of Texas at Austin. White is currently Distinguished Professor of Art at Stockton University, NJ.  White is the dear father of our Business Administrator Amanda White.  He will share his photography work that gives a historical overview of topics of race and history in the United States.
Presentation: African American History in the Archives: A Semiquincentennial Reliquary

In this compelling presentation, acclaimed photographer and visual historian Wendel A. White explores the powerful role of archives in shaping, preserving, and challenging our understanding of African American history. Known for projects that carefully document and reframe historical objects, such as segregated school relics, personal artifacts, documents, and community material culture. This talk offers a profound meditation on history, representation, and the ongoing work of uncovering the past, providing a timely and evocative contribution to the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

Join James Seth Thompson for a panel discussion entitled "See What Possibility Looks Like: The Opportunities Still Needed for Access to Equitable Outcomes and Prosperities,"

James Seth Thompson is a Senior Vice President and Head of Diversity and Multicultural Wealth Segments at Bernstein Private Wealth Management. James is a recipient of many awards and accolades acknowledging his contributions to diversity, equity, and inclusion in the industry.

Monday, January 19th

9:00 AM Opening Program and Key Note Speaker
Our day begins with a musical presentation by Jazz musician Dave Hopkins and a keynote by Judge Clyde W. Waite.  
10:00 & 11:00 AM Service Projects
Our MLK event is heavily focused on service. This year, we will host utensil pack assembly for TASK, write letters to seniors living in isolation,  pack hygiene kits, make no-sew blankets, and more.  (Service projects happen in 2 Session: 1 at 10:00 AM and the other at 11:00 AM and last approximately an hour.)
10:00 AM & 11:00 AM Guest Speaker Presentation
Join Wendel A. White, photographer, historian, and professor, as he explores African American History through photography and archival materials. Mr. White will be speaking at 10:00 and 11:00 am.
